Maybe a quicker starting point would be virtual ones, slowly build it up. I know EMUG Virtual ones have been pretty successful in the past.
We’d be more than willing to host / help coordinate something here on this platform we are also in the process of launching Season 2 of the EpiUsers podcast and one of the things we are looking to do is bring in some of those User Lead presenters to a somewhat informal conversations round a table sort of thing.
I am definitely in. This sounds like it would be well worth the time. Like Jose said, funding will be the thing. We wouldn’t need to hire Old Dominion or a plated dinner though, so I think it would be possible. We’d need to charge for the event (enough to cover some lunches and any costs that the host would incur), but it wouldn’t be nearly so much as Insights.
Remembering some past events I have been to from another community I used to be active on, we had “rallies”, where we could all get together at someone’s house, or event venue, and we would all donate to the cause to fund it. We did have a few vendors sometimes as well, but it was all cool because they were all part of the group as well. Here are a few pics of my accommodations at one of those rallies:
I’m up for it if I can swing a trip to our manufacturing plant (in Dyersville, IA - Field of Dreams for real!).
I’d love to see some sessions that are stump the chump, but more like labs, where we can actually solve and fix whatever is acting up. We could create solutions ahead of time that folks could import to their test environments, and we’d all work through it together.
Imagine we’d be able to share AND bring back/implement some of these amazing ideas to our companies? Not just a ‘hey, check out what we did’, but to be able to apply it as well (a lot of what I saw was amazing, but needed a lot of dev skills to do). We’d need our companies’ permission to share things, but that would be amazing (IMHO).
I love the different approaches people bring at tackling the same issues. And the pros and cons of each. I would think it might be fun if we had a contest or something where it was broken into smaller groups that had to all propose a solution to the same issue. Like make a way for Siri to do stuff in Epicor based on your commands. Or something like that which might end up being useful to many or at the very least entertaining. Maybe the task is not advertised ahead of time… it’s only given once the users are broken into teams. Or, instead of a competition, maybe the attendees could each submit a proposed problem that their company faces and then they are randomly picked to be solved by the groups…
