Hello, has anyone else had trouble adjusting demand links in the kinetic version of job entry? it works fine to update the demand links in classic but doesn’t work in kinetic.
What issues are you having? I haven’t seen any issues deleting one demand link and creating another.
once in a while, we have an order entered in a site where the item is non-stock and manufactured so it is MTO, MRP runs and creates a linked job. when it comes time for production, there might be a situation where we are getting the part into stock a different method (either have left over from other jobs or other site makes for us). in classic the planner was able to go in to the demand links and fill out the stuff i have done in red and zero out the production qty feild. this way MRP does recreate the job if it gets deleted.
when we try to do that and click save, it just goes back to the way it was before, our changes don’t stick
Interesting. I just tested this and it allowed me to make the change… although, I don’t know that I like this approach, to be honest. (Just never taken this approach and not sure how it works).
It doesn’t update the Sales Order in any way. So my Sales Order Release still shows Make Direct, and still shows the original job demand link… even though we’re not making anything.
I also don’t know how I would get the parts out of stock and on to the job. I cannot Issue Assembly the top level part.
Unfortunately I’m no help here, as I don’t understand (have never used this approach, though, you mentioned you do this in Classic).
I’ve always been taught, if the source of the supply changes, I should go back to the Sales Order release and override (uncheck) Make Direct, changing it so the sales order now knows it will ship from stock. I would then delete the job (we’re no longer planning to make anything). Since the sales order demand is now going to be fulfilled by inventory, MRP shouldn’t recreate the job.
The title hit a nerve, though we run into a different issue here.
We will change the part number on a sales order line, and the line/release is MTO. So we change the job part number, and then the demand link updates itself - oh how nice!
But no. We go to ship that line of the order, and the job does not pre-populate in the shipment screen. Red flag… Then if you type/search the job, the serial number is not available.
Solution is to delete the demand link and readd it.
I feel like this never happened in classic. I don’t remember it anyway. Or maybe our users then had a practice of deleting and readding that the current users do not.
Regardless, it’s buggy.
You know, I never do this myself - I only deal with aftermath - but I see now the sales order actually warns you about it!
Well to a point. By updating the job part, it looked like the demand link updated. But it really did not, not enough, I guess. And that’s the problem.
i totally agree that it would be better not to have to do this. but there is a lot of context on why it is getting done this way etc. for now i have reverted the screen to classic until i can figure it out. we also had trouble manually adding MTO demand links to a job.
