Upgrade

My company has determined the upgrade path from v4.4 should be to E9 instead of v8 because of the customizations that would be affected. Our initial feeling was to transition to v8 because it is potentially less buggy than the early E9. Generally speaking I have heard that you don't go to the new level unless there are several revisions beyond release. We are proceeding slowly and creating current state process flows to lead to future state (with all the improvements we would desire) to be implemented in E9. We are currently in the early E9 education and familiarization mode which I think you would avoid given your prowess in v8. Bottom line is that the customizations are driving the E9 upgrade path because nobody can predict what type of v8 to E9 customization symbiosis will exist downstream. Any guesses?

I cannot remember and unfortunately I did not take notes of my upgrade
from 4 to 6.1. One of the upgrades when we did the uninstall of
progress it still had entries in the registry. We had to use reedit to
get them out. Progress talk is another very source for upgrade info.

I am going to upgrade vantage 6 to vantage 8 without Epicor support.
If any one has done it before. Please help me.

This is my first post.

We have had Vantage live for about two and a half years, and like all of you we have experienced many bugs.

We are currently on 803.305E and have avoided upgrading due the cost of testing/rewriting all the customizations that we had to have Epicor do for us to match our business model.

I am now considering an upgrade for many reasons, and am looking for suggestions as to what version we should upgrade to.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

We went from version 5.2 to 8.03.405A a little over a month ago. We have
had very minor issues with this patch level.

407A does have multi-company AP issues- forces you to process manually,
which is a bother. We don't go to our second company for another 3
months, so I'm hoping 408 is out and past its first patch by then...
The supplier price list thing is more of an annoyance. The biggest
problems for our business model (distribution) are the RMA receipt
warehouse issue (wherever you receive the RMA into is where it will go
on disposition. You can select a different warehouse/bin at disposition,
but 407A ignores this, and stocks the material in the RMA receipt
warehouse and bin.), and a couple other things associated with Master
Pack function and territories. Nothing that has kept us from going live
with it, but we are going to have to migrate to 408 as soon as possible.

Hope this helps!

You will find people using 9 but it's the same old story flaw here a flaw
there. None of them are perfect.

I would be asking my self what is the highest level I can get to with the
most minimal impact. Because when you have an issue and you call in you are
going to get the same line well that's fixed in Serv Pack XXX. And you will
find the closer you are to the most current release the less you hear this
line.

I'm with Charlie. Get to at least 405a (certainly not a perfect release but a manageable one). I've read 407(a) is not horrific either.

All depends upon your business and how you use Vantage as to which would be the 'least worst'. (ALL the 305's are in the most-worst category from what I remember.).

We're holding out for 408 for a critical (to us) SCR fix - and even then might wait for the typically rapidly following 'a' version to begin testing on before going live as it takes a good month+ to test sufficiently to have a relatively clean 'no major surprises' conversion.

9? Not even on our radar for another year. I've just yet to hear a good business case (facts - not Epicor sales mumbo jumbo) for what 9 delivers (reliably) above and beyond 8.04.405a - 407 to justify the upgrade time.

supplier price list is a little messed up but it's nothing that you can't

work around.

Subject: [Vantage] Upgrade

This is my first post.

We have had Vantage live for about two and a half years, and like all of you

we have experienced many bugs.

We are currently on 803.305E and have avoided upgrading due the cost of

testing/rewriting all the customizations that we had to have Epicor do for

us to match our business model.

I am now considering an upgrade for many reasons, and am looking for

suggestions as to what version we should upgrade to.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hal
