User security between companies

Scenario: I want user A to be able to enter sales orders and all order functionality of company X, AND they can view order reports / trackers of company Y BUT cannot edit sales order details.of company Y.

Problem As i understand in user security you give them access to whichever companies and they keep the existing relevant groups for each company…AND in menu tree security if i take away the user rights of sales order entry in company Y, it will do it for every company.

Do i understand this correctly?

if memory serves me correctly yes that is correct.

Each Menu Item has an assigned Security ID, usually SECxxx number scheme. You could use a BAQ to export the menu trees for Company Y and create unique Security ID’s for the menu items.

Then create Security Groups for Company Y and assign them to the new Security IDs
