Thanks Deb. I've forwarded this to our Controller.

Accounting: There are new control accounts that need to be set up (create
the G/L numbers), a net income account had to be created and added to the
financial statements before they would run correctly (balance sheet? it's
been too long since we converted to remember all the details). Version 4 is
stable now. Most of the screens in accounting looked identical with the
exception of moving some buttons around. (Who knows for what reason.)

The only real irritating accounting changes are in how to select A/P
invoices to pay AND that we were no longer able to use part numbers for
expense items at a standard cost of 0(to keep a history of purchases and not
have to manually type a bunch redundant info on PO's). The system created a
variance that we didn't want. Now we have to use avg cost and when we adj
those quantities to 0, we now have to write a bunch of reversing entries if
we want the expense items to have their costs reflected in the proper G/L
accounts. And, of course, we do. So this was not a good change for us. I
guess it helps those of you with standard costing. But in an environment
where a big lot is 10 pieces instead of 1-3, average costing is where we
want to be for our manufactured parts. But having that standard cost of 0
for those expense items (toilet paper, inserts, hardware, rags, oil, etc.)
was really nice. Depending on how you have things set up, this may not
affect you at all.

We're still on version 4, waiting for the bugs to disappear on 5 before
migrating. We did not have anyone from Epicor come, but three of us went to
the 4.0 road show. But by the time we actually implemented version 4 months
later, I had LOTS of time to forget details from the excellent road show.
(Mark Pladson and crew do a great job.) I think we have computer savy
employees, an excellent IT resource, and so didn't have much trouble going
live with Ver 4. Of course, we did have some calls to support and they
haven't let me down yet. Bugs and programming issues, inadequate updates to
the help screens, etc. are not something support can be held accountable
for.

How much and what type of training will our users need to move from 3.0 to
4.0? We also plan to move from Average Cost to Standard cost, if that makes
a difference in training.

Does anyone have implementation/upgrade documents that you used when you
went to 4.0 that you'd like to share? Did you have someone from epicor come
in? Did you send anyone away for training? Are the changes in 4.0 simple
enough to just figure out?

I have a boss who would like some answers to these questions.
