Vantage 4.0 and 8.03 on same server

Mark,

I bit the bullet yesterday and installed Progress 9.0B then Vantage
4.0 then all the updates. It works perfectly and after restoring a
snapshot of the db from the old server and copying the reports folder
across, we're good to go.

I had to re-install the client software to get it to recognise some
of the new paths but so far, it's looking good.

When we had an Epicor Dev look at our 803 installation, he mentioned
that our Vantage 4 DB could do with a 'dump and load' to sort out the
high scatter factor. It would be the icing on the cake to sort that
as well!

Hi all,

We're delaying our move to 803 due to dedicating time to other issues but our V4 server has
random reboots which seem to be very difficult to pin down (could be hardware related). It's
running Windows NT4 Server and only has a 550MHz processor and 256MB ram and I'm
desperate to retire it due to us having a nice new server to put Vantage 803 on.

My question is, in the meantime can I put Vantage 4 with progress 9.0B on the same server
as our trial V8 install with openedge (Windows server 2003)? Would I have to fiddle around
with environment variables and port numbers or should it be fairly straightforward?

We've got 11 users so it's not a very demanding install.

Cheers,

Jonathan
Since both V4 and v8 use different ports, running both on the same
server would not be an issue. I have several instances where 6 and 8
and 8.03 are running on the same server.

Yes, you should be able to do this. We are running 8.00 and 8.03 on
the same server. I don't see why it would be any different for 4.0 to
8.03

Jonathan,

When we moved 5.1 to a Windows server 2003 machine it wouldn't run
Progress 9.1C. We had to install Progress 9.1D to run on 2003. I think
there was someone else on this list that ran into the same problem. If
9.1C doesn't run on 2003 I would think 9.0B probably won't either so
make sure you have the 9.1D install files ready.

Good luck,

Mark

Hi all,

We're delaying our move to 803 due to dedicating time to other issues
but our V4 server has
random reboots which seem to be very difficult to pin down (could be
hardware related). It's
running Windows NT4 Server and only has a 550MHz processor and 256MB ram

803 on.

My question is, in the meantime can I put Vantage 4 with progress 9.0B
on the same server
as our trial V8 install with openedge (Windows server 2003)? Would I
have to fiddle around
with environment variables and port numbers or should it be fairly
straightforward?

We've got 11 users so it's not a very demanding install.
