Thank you, I will try that as well.
One thing I've been working on as well is moving all ports on our switches
and on our client Network cards to 100 MB Full Duplex and off of Auto
sensing. To me it shouldn't make a difference, but I hear that helps
vantage a lot too (from Epicor anyways) Unfortunately, 3com NICs are really
hard to switch over in NT 4 machines, so its taking a while.
That and disabling Norton Antivirus scanning on mapped network drives. Why
can't there just be a virus scanning program that just works and doesn't
interfere with anything! That or no viruses (sure, right).
Anyways,
Thanks for the feedback,
Jessee Holmes

Every time we upgrade Vantage, I have to go thru the registry and
manually remove all references to the old epicor directory on the
server. (ie epic50). If I don't do this, it will take 2-3 minutes to
get the login screen. Once I remove the old entries, the login time
drops to 10-15 seconds.

Patrick:
Thanks for the reply. We do have a client on the server and everything
there seems pretty responsive (5 seconds at max to wait). We have a
couple
other machines on the network which is also like this, but then there
are
others who have to wait for 30 seconds if not longer. I was thinking
this
slowness may be related only to Windows 2000/XP machines, cause this
seems
to be the majority of the machines with this problem, but still a couple
of
NT machines are also like this, although not many.
I checked the utilization in my machine (P4 2GHz, 256 MB RAM, 13000 MB
HD,
Windows XP, Intel Net card 100 MB at Full Duplex NOT auto sensing
connected
to the same 3COM 4400 switch the server is connected to both switch
ports
NOT auto sensing per recommendation of Epicor to help increase Vantage
speed) and network utilization is like .030% and most of the time at 0%
and
the memory and processor is hardly touched at all.
Seems my wait time is about 60 seconds if not more.
As for the -B parameter, that was actually set by someone at Epicor when
we
first installed 5.2. We had Epicor help us install it and in fact we
ran
into this exact problem. They checked out everything and everything
seemed
to be fine according to them, so they ended up doing a dump and load of
our
database for us and then evidently went through and tweaked it again
using
some other method.
So now I'm really confused as to what could be the bottleneck or the
problem
here which makes only about half of our computers slow inside vantage
and
the other half not slow.
I performed an unregocx, then I performed a instocx and a vcopydll.
Those
didn't help either.
Any other ideas I could check for. Do you really think it could be
something in my network? Everything else seems at very excellent speed
besides Vantage. I'm just absolutely stumped at what to troubleshoot
next.
Thanks again for the help,
Jessee Holmes

Install a client on the server (Epicor has a document on how to do
this),
you can then time test loading Job Tracker screens on the server to
compare
with client speeds.
Also watch performance monitors for memory, page swapping, etc... on
your
client and see what its doing, this might point you to the bottle neck
also...
Third is your database performance tuned, as new versions are installed,
more indexes and tables are added meaning more server RAM and a larger
-B
parameter are generally required.

We've been on Vantage 5.2 for some time now and I am very curious now as
to
who else is on this version of Vantage and experiencing VERY EXTREMELY
slow
performance from Job Tracker when opening a specific job.
Any feedback on this would be appreciated. A dump and load has all
ready
been performed and yes it helped originally; but suddenly, things are
back
slower again (30-60 seconds to open each job). I want to say this is
Vantage, but I'm not too sure whether or not its that or our database or
our
network (which it shouldn't cause everything else works perfectly fine
and
VERY fast).
Thank You,
