Vantage 6.1 odbc

You need to make sure the client setup and compiled report includes the
export dll's

I have tried #3 -3 different times and have had problems getting to
work. When I get it set up I no longer am able to do exports out of
crystal, it gives an error message and says it has to close and there is

no uninstall for the compile reports so you have to go thru a lot of
renaming files and moving to the correct place. I am not familiar with
viewers, can users query parameters like you can in developer? Who has
these?

Can someone in this group tell me if using odbc and crystal reports take
a full vantage seat or license?
We have 10 vantage licenses and are using these for vantage.
Thanks
Dennis
I believe it only consumes a Progress license.

Yep...in fact you are supposed to install crystal on everyone's computer
to view the canned reports (in version 8.xx and higher).

I think you probably have far more Progress licenses than Vantage
licenses. But you'll need to confirm with your contracts to get the
actual count.

Since I am on Vantage 6.1 will I have to purchase more crystal licenses
for each user? I am set up for crystal and have developed reports which
others need to access now.

The first license you need to buy is for Crystal Developer 8.5 which you
should already have. (Where you write your reports)

The problem with 6.1 is that if you want users to run those reports you
either need to

1) Run from developer (would mean you need to have a copy of
Crystal Developer 8.5 on every client?

2) Run from a viewer (licensed depending on whether the viewer is
free or not)

3) Run from an executable (need to get hold of the Crystal 8.5
add-on compiler which is free. If you are using a later version of
Crystal I believe the compiler is not available as they started using
web based publishing.

Item 1 is an expensive overkill and would need licensing for every
terminal

Item 2 Only need licenses if viewer is licensed and not free

Item 3 does not need licensing as it accesses progress odbc connections
only and the compiler is free

You will only need to buy Vantage licenses, if you add the executables
to the vantage menu (using a progress script) and the user needs to
login to find them

This is how I have always interpreted it.

They discontinued the add-on as they went towards web publishing.

You would need to get a viewer or write one.

Who has
these?

Have a look at the Logicity Suite. I've been using it for quite some time
now and it is very nice. They have a free version and a professional
version. You can check it out at www.logicitysuite.com.

Gary,

Do you know if you can create an executable from Crystal Reports XI? I
cannot find an add on for that.

Dennis

Since I am on Vantage 6.1 will I have to purchase more crystal licenses
for each user? I am set up for crystal and have developed reports which
others need to access now.
