Dan,

Standard help is pretty useless. Good plan to get the Epicor Tools User
Guide - still lacking - but much better the Help alone.

It starts to make sense pretty quickly if you've done any programming
before (preferrably VB).

I started with heavy Office/VbScript (visual basic for applications)
experience and, even though I had done object oriented programming EONs
ago (Small Talk in the 80's), it took a while to adjust mentally from
the push paradigm (make events happen) of VbScript to the pull (act upon
event) paradigm of VB.NET.

Tons of good resources on the web: Microsoft's on line Visual Basic
reference guide has tons of free code eamples, Technet has great user
forums, etc., to help.

Infragistics should have some reference info for the custom controls
used in Vantage and, if needed, the 8.03.4 SDK can be downloaded from
the Vantage site for reference. Some utilities on the Vantage download
site come in handy (DLL sniffers to reveal the true properties and
methods of objects - and to reveal language(s) they were written in,
etc.,).

The hardest part (I'm finding) is to decide what is the best (long term)
tool to use to obtain the desired result (BPM, VB.NET app Customization,
BAMs, etc.,).

Good luck!

SugPOChg & SugPODtl tables have UD fields available - but only indicate
the customer order (SugPOChg) or Job (SugPODtl) if the suggestion is for
a Buy-Direct Part.

IF your purchased parts are Buy-Direct:

1. You could customize whatever app your Job planners predominantly use
so they can enter a 'requested delivery date' for the JobMtl (using a ud
Date## field in that table).

2. You could then customize whatever app your Buyers predominantly use
by adding the necessary .AD, .UI assemblies and adapter(s) needed to
access JobMtl. Then add Job Mtl as a Foriegn Key View table.

3. Select a reliable PO app event trigger and add Subroutine code to
read the current record SugPODtl.Job, find the matching JobMtl.JobNum
record, return the ud JobMtl.Date## value, and display it on the PO app
form in a custom date/time editor control (set to read only - unless
your Buyers have Job & related subtable read access AND you want the
process to be for them to 'reply' to the Job Planner's request for a
different date than the current Requirement Date by entering it.)

If you do want Buyer's to 'reply', it makes sense to also add a custom
checkbox editor control to the PO app (and the Job app) linked to a
JobMtl.CheckBox## ud field. The checkmark indicates to the Job Planner
the date is a response. It can then also be used in BAQ Job search to
let Job Planners review all Jobs with responses (so they reschedule to
suit). The checkbox also will let a Buyer know they have already
responded (so they don't waste time doing it again).

You could do the same for Buy-Direct parts needed for customer
Order-Line-Releases using the OrdDtl & SugPOChg tables.

...Interesting idea IF your purchased parts are predominantly (enough)
Buy-Direct to make it worth the customization (and ongoing customization
maintenance) time.
