I was overjoyed to finally discover that this is described in the Epicor Tools User Guide on page 473 onwards. To summarise, go to Executive Analysis -> Business Activity Management -> Setup -> Alert Attachments. There you can modify the contents of the Alert.mfgsys template for each vantage table it seems, including the MNSONOMA reference, and the port number.
A word of caution: if you are in the habit of copying your live database to Pilot or Training, then this reference (the port number at least) will need to be changed in the destination database, much as we now do with the SystemTaskAgent.
