Vantage Closes while Printing

Have you tried installing a different OS on a test machine? We had a
problem printing the job traveler on windows XP...switched to WIN2000 and
have had no problem since. Not sure what we'll do as computers come out
that are not compatible with the older OS but works for now. We are using
Vantage 5.2 and CR8 so it's comforting to know that it hasn't been fixed on
future releases.

Still working with support. They sent me a program called Black Box,
that creates a log of Vantage activity on the PC. After the problem
occurs we saved the log file and sent it in. We've sent in 4 files,
they got back to us on the first one thinking it was registry entries
pointing to an old Vantage Drive from a few intalls ago. I couldn't
find any reference to it the registry and I know the machine has been
wiped out and re-done since that old server was taken off line, so
I'm really confused by what they've found. Still waiting to hear
more from them. I'll let the group know if we achieve any success.

We are having some users occaisionally kicked out of Vantage while
printing Crystal Forms such as the Sales Order Acknowledgment and Job
Traveler. We are on Vantage 6.1. Clients have WinXP SP2. Printers
are HP 4000 series Laser Jets.

Any ideas?

We are on 6.0 and are experiencing this also. We have noticed that
users with printers
Hooked up locally vs hooked to a print server are more likely to
experience this. We
Are moving all printers to a print server to see if this is a possible
remedy.

If you do not think it is odbc related it might be the printer itself we
have changed between raw and spooling etc.. I would look at these settings
sorry I do not have more specifics

It is a recurring problem with Crystal. It has several causes with
limited solutions. I have been chasing this issue with Tech Support for
over a year with limited success. I have one last thing involving the
dll's with Crystal and Vantage that I will try when time permits before
I give up completely.

The list of suggestions and things I have tried read like War and Peace.
Call tech first or give me a call off list. Some customers they have
been able to help, others like us just live with it.

The ugly truth is something is broke between Vantage, Crystal and the
OS, the potential causes are many and the fixes are few.

We've seen problems with 'residue' files affecting the current report,
especially Crystal ones. Whenever a user has a problem with a report, we
tell them to delete all files in the temp directories, both Windows and
Vantage. Usually, the problem goes away.

Did anyone find a solution to this? I'm in the process of upgrading to 6.1
from 4.0 (still in testing) and have this problem.
Vantage closes when I try to print preview our customized Sales Order
Acknowledgement form.
I have the latest Vantage Service pack, SP3 for Crystal 8.5.

I also have problems when I try to view the report within Crystal.

We have 8 other customized CR reports that work fine.

Any help will be appreciated.

We've seen problems with 'residue' files affecting the current report,
especially Crystal ones. Whenever a user has a problem with a report, we
tell them to delete all files in the temp directories, both Windows and
Vantage. Usually, the problem goes away.

Still working with support. They sent me a program called Black Box,
that creates a log of Vantage activity on the PC. After the problem
occurs we saved the log file and sent it in. We've sent in 4 files,
they got back to us on the first one thinking it was registry entries
pointing to an old Vantage Drive from a few intalls ago. I couldn't
find any reference to it the registry and I know the machine has been
wiped out and re-done since that old server was taken off line, so
I'm really confused by what they've found. Still waiting to hear
more from them. I'll let the group know if we achieve any success.
