Vantage Error 7224 Need help

'tried to call a method in an invalid procedure 7224'
We are also getting this problem and need to restart the application. We are running Epicor 9.05.604 in SQL. Any concrete solution into this that worked for other users? Thanks

We have a few users here that occasionally receive an error in Vantage that requires them to close the application. The error is "The following application error has occurred: Tried to call a method in an invalid procedure. (7224)" This morning, a user received this error while the Engineering Workbench was open but he wasn't actively using it. He was using another (non-Epicor) application when the error popped up. We are on 803.405a.

Has anyone run into this and if so, is there a known cause and solution?

We regularly run into this.

The first place to start is clear out the local cache on the machine.

After that, Im hoping Epicor will tell me the answer (although the call has been
open for some time).

Was it just one user?

We've seen this error before. Where in Vantage do you receive the error?

It has happened with a few different users. Mostly Engineers who are in the Engineering Workbench and in Jobs.

By clearing local cache do you mean the DNS cache on the users machine? Should I also clear it on the server?

If that's the case do you think this error is caused because something in Vantage is trying to look at a stale record?

Thanks to both of you for your help.

That error is an extension of the 7175 error. We have users that see these 2 errors on a daily basis, multiple times a day. They are working all over the system. We are working with Epicor to get the issues resolved. Basically the user computers are losing connection with the AppServers. If you lose even 1 packet of data, Epicor will drop the connection.

I dont know if it is classed as the DNS cache.

This is the cache that Epicor creates on the local PC that I am referring to.

We are having exactly this issues, with the 7175 followed by several 7224
followed by closing down and restarting Epicor.

What have you tried so far?

We cant figure out how packets are being lost.

It is only a hand ful of MES terminals doing shipments where we see the issue.

Some are wireless to a server which is connected directly to our Epicor server
so even if the wifi dropped, the session remains open.

Others are hard wired.

LONG EMAIL, SORRY…. We had this problem about 2-3 years ago. Epicor support told me that no matter what you try packets will be dropped. Its just the way it is, when too many packets are dropped then you get this error. Or when the PCs connection is terminated you will then get this error. I spent months trying to research and fix this. I did everything possible… installed WireShark, bought new NIC cards, reinstalled everything, ran new network cables, beefed up PCs, turn off all customizations even though the forms we were using weren't customized. Nothing seemed to work. We even had Ben Nixon remote into our system and spend a few hours checking things out, he couldn’t' find anything. Finally after much testing and thoughts of becoming a carpenter we found some success with fine tuning the appserver/database settings according to the Epicor document specifications and then performing a Dump & Load. We also made sure our Vantage Crystal Reports were saved with version 11 and not version 10. We also discovered some weird characters throughout our database. For example… when we create a new part sometimes we'll copy and paste the description from a word or excel document. A "hard" return in word shows up in Vantage as this little rectangular looking thing. I've spent a large amount of time looking through our Part Master and removing any unnecessary characters. Doing this actually helped with our performance. One thing Ben Nixon did was add another appserver to our environment. We then added the users that get the errors to this appserver. We were able to tweak the appservers settings to find out what worked best and we were also able to restart this appserver and not affect the rest of our users when the errors occurred.

If anyone has any questions I'd be more then happy to discuss offline.

That error is an extension of the 7175 error. We have users that see these 2
errors on a daily basis, multiple times a day. They are working all over the
system. We are working with Epicor to get the issues resolved. Basically the
user computers are losing connection with the AppServers. If you lose even 1
packet of data, Epicor will drop the connection.

How did you create another app server just for them?

We NEED the customisation for our company to function so we can't test it
without the customisation in a Live environment.

Thanks to all for your suggestions. I will try them and report back. This problem has been going on for a while but it doesn't happen every day. We'll make the suggested changes one by one and give it some time to see if anything helps.

I also read on another site that some people were having success when clearing the DNS cache on the Epicor server. Not sure how this will help but I'm going to give it a shot too.

Blake did your steps with Ben finally resolve the issue? Are you still running a separate app server?

Thanks again,

Dave Eaton

We are no longer running the separate appserver. Once we performed a few of the steps I mentioned below the separate appserver was no longer needed.

Dave Eaton

Yes… we called it ReportsAppserver. It ran along side TaskAgent and ProcessServer appservers.
