Vantage Freezing - Corrupt Index?

Sounds like the same problem. It's holding up an upgrade to
5.1/5.2.

Thanks Mark and Gary.

I've experiencing something similar to the Job Entry screen freezing,
though probably not of the same origin. There are a handful of
JobOper records that will freeze Vantage, and cannot be accessed from
any Progress tool.

For example when I try to view the contents of one certain record in
RB, it crashs. I can try to access the corresponding JobOper
operation in Vantage, and it locks up. I can try to access the
record in a program and the session crashes.

When I dump that table it stops on that record, and I get an "access
violation". Tried IDXBuild and get the same error when it processes
that table.

I've dumped all but JobOper, and exported all JobOper (except that
record) with a program. Trying import to blank DB as I write, to be
followed by a load, then another IDXBuild.

If anyone has also noticed one or more records that cannot be
accessed, I would definitely like to hear about it.

Thanks,
Lonnie
We have, believe it or not, a blank part number record in our system.

It was entered while we were in 3.0 and none of the Vantage/Epicor
people we've shown it to either understand it or can fix it.

A similar problem occurs when we try to access it in the part master.
The whole session is immediately terminated without warning and you have
to log on again. As soon as you try to open, look at this blank part
number, this happens.

Mark,

May not be blank. Could be non-printable characters/control codes entered
accidentally. Those characters could cause your session to kack. Vantage
doesn't know what to do with it. I saw some of that when I was a
programmer. If that's what it is, Vantage programming dept needs to go into
the database tables and manually delete that record and everything
associated with it. Or rename it.

Depending on what it is, it could be involved and tricky. That one part and
all of it's links needs to be isolated and dealt with. I wouldn't attempt
it myself. Talk to someone who knows the system intimately. I'm assuming
that's the Epicor programmers. Good luck.
