(vantage) off topic - anti-virus problems

Lydia,

We're running Symantec NAV CE v7x with real-time file protection running on
the workstations excluding C:\vntgwork...
Through the Symantec System Console, we schedule daily update checks from
SARC. The SSC updates each workstation based upon the workstations
NAV-Client scheduled update date/time. As it is, our workstations check the
NAV Server(SSC) every 3 days for updates and again the server checks
everyday.

Hi, all:

We had a little problem with Norton Anti-virus (corporate edition) last
week. A new virus definition was downloaded from Norton and it brought our
network to a standstill. Even though all of my Vantage files are excluded
from A-V scanning, it seems to have generated enough network traffic to shut
everything down. There were two other companies in our industrial center
with the same problem. Anybody else out there have anything similar? We
finally turned off scanning on the individual workstations except for our MS
Exchange Services and that seemed to cure it. Any other suggestions?

We have autoloaded the latest NAV virus Defs: dated 11/9/00

And have had no problems.

A while back we did get a corrupted definition file from Norton and it
caused a blue screen (of Death) on every machine that started a scan
(servers & workstations).

I suggest you get a new copy of the definitions and see if that fixes the
problem.

While A.V. programs are pretty much a matter of choice, Whenever I've used
Norton anti virus its turned a reliable efficient piece of equipment into a
buggy, crabby pain in the butt. I like Dr Solomon, I dont even know its
there.
