Vantage/Progress Patch Installation Sequence

I would recommend the following sequence:

1. install the latest patch of the current version and run the conversions
2. install the next release, install the latest patch of that release and
run the conversions
3. if you are not at the latest release repeat step 2 for every next
release.

Subject: [Vantage] Vantage/Progress Patch Installation Sequence

When upgrading versions of Vantage/Progress from 3 to 4 to 5 to 5.1,
does the sequence in which the patches are installed make any
difference? Specifically, on the install of version 4,you load the
Progress software then the Progress patch (from the CD), can you
apply the latest patch at that time or will this foul up the db
conversion & schema changes down the road?
Hopefully I haven't wasted the last two hours.

For 4.0 I've done it three ways already, all three have worked without
incident.

1. Install Progress, install patch from CD as per instructions, run
conversions, install latest patch
2. Install Progress, install latest patch from Epicor, run conversions
3. Install Progress, run conversion with no patches, install latest patch
from Epicor.

I've never had problems with 4.0 on the way to 5.0 or 5.1 the many times
I've done it. My problems were mostly with 5.1. For both 5.0 and 5.1 I do
not install any Progress patches until I have the schema changes and db
conversions done. Then I apply the latest Progress and Vantage patches.
Usually there are no schema changes but are db conversions. It might take a
little longer doing two sets of db conversions, but I have found it to be
the most stable and reliable way to do it.
