Warehouse Bin Control

Hi,

We are a manufacturing company that uses steel coils and these are stored on a racking system in different warehouses and each bin can only hold one coil.

All of our coils are lot tracked and i am struggling to find any info if we can only allow 1 lot number per bin.

to add a bit more context to this…

if a bin is physically empty then the coil can obviously be placed into the bin, however if epicor does not belive the bin is empty then it should not allow the coil to be moved to that location. this would then hopefully prompt the material handler to find out what is ment to be in that bin and where it is.

This would need to be done via a BPM, it would have to be bin specific as I am sure you have bins for other parts that can hold more than one part.

Hi Andy,

for example we have a ‘stores’ warehouse and in there, there is just a putaway bin, bit for the racks where our coils are stored that where the limitation would be. so if i have 150 coil bins does that mean 150 BPMs?

i am all new to this side of things so plesase excuse my ignorance if i am missing the obvious

I guess it comes down to the method for putting things away, in the client, a simple BPM could check the partbin table to see if there was any on hand qty and produce an error.

Better still reduce the bin search results to only show empty bins

Is the purpose of this to have Epicor make sure people do their jobs properly?

If I am putting away, can’t I just visually verify if the BIN is empty?

What do you want to stop people from doing? Physically putting something in a BIN they shouldn’t? Entering in the wrong To Bin when they receive?

say someone takes a coil from a bin, physically the bin is empty, however we have instances where people have not done their jobs correctly and have not moved the item from the bin so physically its empty but in fact according to the system it is not
