Were GL Account Segments Not Needed in 8?

Not sure if anyone can remember, but I’m working on converting from 8 to Kinetic and our 8 does not have any GL Account Segments. Were they not needed in 8?

Segments where introduced in 9.05 or may just 9. This was the big finance upgrade version.

Are you doing a conversion? Or DMT?
Is your company 2 or 3 segments?

GL Accounts were in 9.

I ask about the conversion vs DMT and 2 or 3 segments for a reason. There’s a fix you will need depending on your answer.

We are doing a re-implementation, so I will create a DMT to load the segments and then build from there.

I am actually going to test using the Extended rules and set up the COA with Dynamic Segments. So will only have one static account.

8.03 to Kinetic isn’t that bad of an upgrade. But if you are doing a DMT reimplementation, you probably have your reasons. (Bad data?)

If you are using extended, don’t forget to set it up as Chart-Division- Department.

One other side note I’ve seen struggles with companies adapting to is the UOM. Don’t overthink it. UOM has a pretty basic standard.
