We're moving to E10 and are implementing multiple sites. We had just one site before, but a recent acquisition of another company has given us three more sites. Luckily those other sites are just procurement and storage (no manufacturing). But we have the need fulfill orders from multiple plants.
And it is very common for plant A to mfg the mfg'd parts, ship them to plant B, and then the entire order is fulfilled from plant B.
The manufactured parts are custom and are not stocked (not even an entry in the Parts master), so Transfer Orders won't work (or will they?).
Before you make the obvious suggestion of having plant B transfer the non-mfg'd parts to plant A, know that the customers are typically close to plant B and may pickup orders themselves. Also plant A and B are about 1,000 miles apart, and the parts (mfg'd and non-mfg'd) weigh several hundred pounds each. So shipping parts from B to A, and then A to the customer would add lots of time and money.
There will be times when we will ship some from A and some from B. But its the times when the mfg'd parts need to get to plant B, to be staged and shipped from B. And the parts may sit at B for more than a fiscal period.
