Don't forget that 802.11g is backward compatible with 802.11b. The XTreme-G
cards by D-Link are what I use and they work with both.

Thanks, I've been doing just that (checking CDW) and was sort of torn
between Linksys and D-Link. I did not see a D-LInk dual speed PC card like
the one Linksys has. I wanted to do 802.11g (54Mbps) here in office but
still be able to do slower 802.11b at Perspectives. Prices seems pretty
comparible and looks like I could do it for just about $200. A lot less
than wiring one of the conference rooms that has no Ethernet line. I'll ask
our CDW rep to see if D-Link has a dual speed PC card.

I've been really happy with the D-Link line of stuff. I've got two of
their original 802.11b WAPs running still with newer 802.11g stuff
integrated with it. I've never had to reboot anything and you can't beat
the cost. Check out CDW for prices. They have always had the best when it
came to this and if the price seems a little high, tell your sales person
that someone else has it for less. They will go down.

At Perspectives there will be 802.11b wireless access points. I had already been considering getting one wireless router and a PC card for one of the laptops to use occasionally in a difficult to wire meeting room. Now I'm thinking to get this before Perspectives and take a laptop with. In the office it would be 802.11g so I would have to get a dual speed PC card.

Any recommendations or warnings on particular brands/models? Security features to look for? As usual cost is critical.

I purchased two D-Link adapters and a D-Link wireless router for my home
office. One in a laptop and one in a desktop. The installation was
painless other than typing the encryption code for 128 big encryption. It
was easy to turn on but that code is one long number.

I was told that D-Link was a step up from some of the really cheap stuff
without spending big bucks. I went with the Xtreme G series which is the
new faster standard. It is downward compatible. I hung a HP print server
off the router and stashed the whole thing in a closet to get the "clean"
look my wife wanted.

Works great so far.
