4.0 Job Traveler

Our people cut core labels from the information on the traveler. The P.O.
and Customer part number are necessary on the labels.

As far as our company is concerned... the customer po and
customer part number isn't needed by the people working on
the shop floor.

We use the standard Traveler to which we made slight cosmetic
modifications.

It was just brought to my attention today that the Traveler only
references our internal part number and does not cross reference the
customer's part number.

Is there any way to put the customer's part number on the form? I
haven't been able to find anything in the Database or Formula field
that looks like a customer part number.

Best wishes...and thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

You might have to use a user defined field on the job header which gets
passed to the .dbf files for the traveler. But this would mean a bit of
extra entry for every job for the part. We had to do this for an alternate
customer name where jobs are started before we have release orders from a
customer.

I have suggested this several times to Epicor (along with adding other
fields). They said they were only going to add all fields that were
requested by customers in the 4.0 release (which obviously didn't happen).
Epicor says they can't make all fields available because it will slow the
performance of the report to unacceptable levels. I wish they could add
all fields from the tables and re-test to see if the performance will still
be affected. Crystal has had several upgrades since 4.0 was in development
and probably could handle the increase in fields.

OR, they could let the user decide which fields they want, & the user could limit the number of fields & weigh performance in their own environment. Now there's an idea!

Either one of those ideas would work for me...but since there was no waiting
for the user fields solution, we went that way. Once you get folks trained,
they do ok with putting in the info. I run a watchdog report that dumps the
info once in a while to verify it's being handled.

It seems so odd to me that when a job is being run because of a sales order
and you have access to the sales order number, line, release, order
quantity, ship via, ship to....why Epicor wouldn't have included imperative
data such as customer P.O. number and customer part number. We wouldn't be
running the job if not for the customer's P.O...that data is critical to
have on the Traveler. Another work around, I guess.
