I think I'm missing something ovious here:

What is the BAQ syntax for finding (as an example) JobHead.JobNum where JobHead.StartDate = null (in other words, the Job is not yet scheduled)?

The phrase builder seems to block entry of a date field critieria comparison to null (no date yet established).

Any help appreciated.
