6.0 Slow Vantage Starts

I found this exact thing last year in 6.10 when we switched to a new server and never got a any answer from Epicor. It was not consistent from machine to machine and changing network switches made a HUGE difference. But for the few that I could not change the switch I re-set the ownership and rights on regocx.log in the user Work folder so they could not write to it. The get a pop-up error message indicating this but the login screen comes up very quickly because it just bypasses all that checking with no apparent harm.

I never got the to bottom of the switch part but when examining the time stamps in the log file as well as task manager/network performance graphs it was apparent that some machines ran much faster connections to the server.

Subject: [Vantage] 6.0 Slow Vantage Starts

I opened Call 1128676PSC asking this question.

"During the process of investigating the cause for long waits while
Vantage opens we discovered that some of the time is consumed by
<regocx.r>. It generates a log file on the user workstation
<regocx.log> that indicates a series of comparisons are being made for
DLL's and OCX registry entries. What is the purpose and why must it be
run on each user's workstation every time they log in?"

Without the procedure Vantage opens in between 4 and 10 seconds at the
client. Does anyone in the group see a problem with circumventing this
procedure? Registry entries should not be changing unless software is
added or removed so what it the harm?
