6.0 - upgrade existing 5.2 database from different server

Sarah,
It is now known as Business Activity Manager. You will find it under Exec
Ana, Business Activity Manager. You will have to set it all up again on
6.0.
Now it has the ability to track most any field change...

Good luck,

I can't find the change log maintenance on 6.0? Does anyone know where it
went. It used to be under system management / utilities, but it is not
there - I feel very dumb but I've been looking for it for a while... Help?

I upgraded from 5.1 to 5.2 then copied the database to a safe location, rebuilt the server and intalled 6.0 and then did the database conversion with no problems.

Has anyone upgraded to 6.0 when 5.2 was on a different server? The upgrade
instructions for the 6.0 upgrade have a section on upgrading the existing
database, but it says "These instructions require that your server have both
5.2 and 6.0 installed on the same server before proceeding."

I have 5.2 on a different server. Do I have to re-install 5.2 on the new
server to upgrade my database, or does anybody know of another way to do it.
Unfortunately, there aren't any other instructions in the upgrade packet.

Thanks for the response. Did you use the 'upgrade database from existing
installation' tool on the vantage 6.0 installation CD or some other method?

Sarah,
you can install vantage 6 on a separate server and plug your backup into
the new installation.
You still have to run schema changes and the db conversions have to run.

Thanks. I apologize for my ignorance, but when you say I can plug my
back-up into the new installation, does that mean to restore it (using
prorest) to the new mfgsys database location? Again, sorry if this is
obvious.

Yes. I usually do it this way so I can install all of the clients before we
make the move to the new version.

Thank you!

Can this also be done on the same server under a different network drive?

The only thing that may be a problem is that V5.2 and 6 use the same
progress version. But I would guess
that you would be able to point to the V5.2 progress install.
