Advanced Planning and Scheduling module

Sue,

I just heard today that APS 4.1a was released. Until we get
it and install it I cannot answer how well it works with
Vantage because at this point it doesn't. Our APS
installation is currently "dormant", awaiting this update.
You will need to be on 4.00.815 for APS to integrate properly
though.

have fun,
John

Is anyone using the Advanced Planning and Scheduling module? Any thoughts
or comments about the module would be appreciated.

Sure... We wanted it so that we could schedule by setup groups.
So we could run all of our 6" tube together, then run all the
5" and so on. It appears to do this quite well, HOWEVER, you
must create setup groups and add them to the JOB! Then the
next time you need that same part you must add them to the
JOB again!!!! We have 1000's of job parts out there and maintaining
this is totally impossible. Supposedly in the next version of
Vantage there will be fields on the PART that eliminates the
need to recreate these setup groups each time you create a job.
Also be advised that workcenters in APS are only allowed 24 hours
per day. So if you have any workcenters with grouped machines you
have to separate them and reroute the operations. So until Vantage
version 5, it's another useless module. I'd wait.
