Alternate Methods

Hi All,

Looking into alternate methods. I’ve got a base part with Revision 1, I’ve set up an alternate method for part 1 (1-A). The base rev has operation X, and the alt rev has operation Y. When MRP runs for the selected part, I want it to pull in the alternate method to the job, but currently it’s pulling in the base rev.

Am I missing something here?

Part Plant - Primary Alternate Rev I think will get you wher you want.

Try putting your alternate method here, then re-run MRP.

Thank you very much. This got me exactly what I was looking for.

Great! I literally was just about to test this myself and so you helped me out too by confirming it does what I expected! I’m looking into the same exact thing you are. My next thing to figure out is how standard costing workbench behaves with alternate methods. And how mass part replace works with alternates.

Those are some other things I hadn’t considered. I will have to do some testing of my own as well.

I do know this though there are caveats about the Bom cost report with alternates. Here’s some text I spewed out while watching a webinar… hopefully it makes sense to you.

Caveat about alternate methods as different ways to make a part is that the BOM cost report does not consider the alternate method for a material inside a material. For example, if you are running a BOM cost report for a finished part and that finished part has a semifinished good in it that has an alternate rev in it, you can’t use the alternate rev’s cost because there are no effective dates on the alternate revs.

Makes sense.

Another caveat is if you use a modeling software for drawings that link with Epicor, the models have to match as well when the link runs, so the models all have to be updated.

that’s an even larger undertaking… godspeed.
