Auto Job Completion process

In our experience its been somewhat difficult to get jobs to auto
complete, but we typically use that to force ourselves to make sure to
clean stuff up before invoicing. I have a number of BPM's that prevent
shipping before quantities are available from the job...

Rob,

You make some good points about the timing. In our case we assure that
the materials and operations are complete before shipping. All
transactions are accounted for, and as I said about 97% of our jobs are
linked to the SalesOrder.

Thanks for the info,

We are trying to use the Auto completion process to reduce some of the processing time for Jobs. The goal would be to Auto complete any jobs that have had their total Quantity shipped via a Pack slip.

Right now we manually set a Job to Complete after shipping. 98% of our jobs are linked to a Sales Order. Moving the Job to Complete is the que for accounting to move the Job to Closed.
I do not see this capability in the Auto Job Completion process.
Is anybody using the Auto Complete process to accomplish anything like this?

Thanks,

Dave

Seems like there are a lot of potential holes for accurate job costing
to happen using that criteria.

Rob,

Even though I cannot find a method to accomplish the auto complete using the pack slip as the trigger, I'm curious what potential inaccurate job costing holes you see.

Thanks,

It can be a timing issue. If you complete the job by any other criteria
than all ops complete and all materials issued when you receipt to stock
your inventory is evaluated at that time. Whether you are using last,
average, or what-have-you, if all your information isn't there vantage
only evaluates costs with what it knows at the time. Same goes for make
direct, though this one is more forgiving with regards to timing. You
may notice inconsistencies in your sales gross margin reports if all
your costs aren't rolled up into shipments from jobs. I'm still
learning more about this everyday, I wont pretend to have it all down
pat. Though you could if you felt it was still appropriate for you (or
you thought Im just full of it :-)) widen the parameters on your
thresholds enough so they'll complete without too much trouble.
