Blanket orders

We input the blanket order with the date(s) of all known releases and
then assign a date of 01/01/2050 for the balance. As new releases are
made, we update the sales order.
This allows us to prevent loading the shop with orders that are not
firm, and see the total dollar value of blanket orders in Executive
Analysis - Shop Vision - Order Backlog, since they all come up under
the 01/01/2050 date.
The only down side was the Sales Order Acknowledgement printing this
date, but I'm sure there's a way to have it print "Hold For Release"
or some other language instead.

Hello all,
I'm curious how members setup their blanket orders. Our blanket
orders don't have a consistant quantity or dollar value. And just to
complicate things, we don't know what they will be coming in at ahead
of time, but they have an overall value setup on the purchase order.
Anyone got any ideas or experience with this?
What we do in that situation is to set a delivery date to 12/31/2002 and
either put 1 unit out there, or the balance of the order then adjust as
changes come in. Keep in mind that it could make for some pretty weird
looking sales reports. (IE) 6 million dollars due to be delivered on Dec
31. Alternatively, break up the amounts over 12 months then adjust from
there that at least evens things out.

Thanks Shirley! That's the way I've done it in the past also. I was
hoping there might be a different way. Does anyone do blanket orders in
a different way?
