I have been reading a ton on Microsoft Project and Project for the Web when using Epicor to quickly update information. What I like about the Microsoft Project Concept is that it is more user friendly to Construction PM. My question is can Epicor be treated like a Procore? In Kinetic, where can I create a COR? Where can I Store information regarding a project. I.e. Photos, Drawing Packets, Submittals. Is it easy to create an automated Task that is goverend by a rule that needs to be marked complete in order to move the job forward a production environment. There are so many questions I have about the program. I see it more of moving a product through a manufacturing environment and not really used for coordinating in the Field and with a PM from a customer. Does anyone have anymore insight on this. It is very much appreciated.
Welcome William!
In Epicor, one would use the Project module. There are some add-ons like Advanced Billing that favors construction activities. The Project Module has the basic work breakdown structure with phases. I’ve never used the capability, but the WBS can sync the WBS with MS Project. It has a general task management capability. And the advanced billing module allows for signoffs. One can maintain versions of the projects as well. You can store links to documents like photos, proposals, etc.
I’m sure a dedicated package like Procore will be a better fit for a pure construction company, but if you’re also manufacturing supplies for your construction projects, then maybe Kinetic fits the bill better.
Well that’s the thing we are both manufacturing as well as construction all within the same type of product. We do casework and millworker, furniture like dressers or coffee tables etc. etc We could use a configurator for like I would say a catalog piece such as a piece of furniture with minimal changes, but that does not work for a general contractor following a spec of an architect and play by the construction industry rules that could change during the construction process . This is where I’m at with Microsoft project because of the compatibility with Epicor and the ability to track a job assign task etc. My issue currently is trying to find an app similar to bluebeam that is compatible with Microsoft project like one of the apps it comes with, once I find something like that I’m pretty sure the options of kinetic would be limitless utilized with project for the web.
