Carbon Tracking / Sustainability - Tracking of scope 3 USE and END OF LIFE

We have a new idea that is important in our worldwide market… I know that many of you are only Domestic USA, and maybe this does not apply, but for those that ship outside of the USA to Europe and Asia, this will start becoming a big issue.
Part of the rules beling laid out is that companies must report the lifetime CO2e Carbon usage as well as disposal information.
We have created a new Epicor Idea with some of the proposed details. Please take a look, vote if you agree, COMMENT if you have additional input.

I’m Carbon Tracking ignorant at the moment. Would it makes sense to put carbon tracking in the landed cost module so could disburse across the PO lines, just like you do for costs?

yes and no… note that Carbon tracking is no a “to the penny” calculation… in many cases it is only an estimate. trying to get things to balance is possibly a futile exercise. Also, some in the industry have said that anything under 1% of the carbon consumption is not worth tracking. For some of our customers, the carbon content of the product is minimal, but the USAGE of the product is 99% of the carbon value.

  • Consider a light bulb… low carbon, but lots of usage… when it breaks, you throw it out.
  • Consider a 100 ton press… very high carbon, very high transport costs, but also lasts a very long time (many decades) and is repaired/recycled and not thrown away.

SOO… this is all dependent on your industry, what you make and how it is used/reused/recycled over time.
