Classic Sunset Officially at 2026.1

Just about everything is possible. I’ve yet to really come across anything that I couldn’t do. Sure, there are things that require a different approach, but that’s to be expected. Your cheese will move, but it’ll taste just as good in a new location when you find it again.

They’ve been telling us this is coming for nearly 5 years now they gave us one and a half years of final warning is time to buckle up and learn this stuff

Rewrite our customizations and get on board, those on prem can stay at 2025.2 for a long time before you are completely out of support I think sustaining support kicks in at 2 years?

So if you upgrade to 2025.2 you have an additional 2+ years

You get 2 years of Active Support and another 2 years of Sustaining Support. So you could ride out 2025.2 until 2029.1. Not that I’d want to be on Sustaining Support but you could.

Epicor isn’t going to leave us without a complete product in the browser. They’ll have to have working solutions for everything. I’m staying optimistic that we will see a lot of improvement in the browser based client over the next year. It’s already much better now than it was even a year ago.

I think management might be stealing some of that already. :sob:

It happens. After years of management positions, I am SO Happy to be back in a development role, here in the sunset of my career!

Eh, I don’t know. I joke about it, but I really would like to see the massive number of customizations that we have here running in the browser. So, I might hang around a while.

Yes, and the Kinetic UI is in so much better shape now. The Kinetic team at Epicor have been listening and making improvements in preparation for the end of Classic. For all the growing pains we’ll have it’ll be worth it in the end. There is more for them to do to get everything into KineticUI plus whatever changes need to be made to non-browser tools (DMT, APR, etc from the FAQ).

Earlier this year I implemented Kinetic (at the time 2023.2) for a customer who was upgrading from Vantage 5.

Stranger things have happened.

Depending on which version you’re coming from some BAQs may need changes due to schema changes. Several of mine had to be going from 10.2.700 to 2024.1.9. As on-prem it was quick to find exactly the column causing the issue and correct it, so there’s that.

Well that would be a problem regardless of UI.

Actually, the BAQ worked in the Designer and in Classic dashboards, but it resulted in the Kinetic grids not showing any results, until I fixed the BAQ.

Interesting we’ve not had any BAQs that didn’t work in a Kinetic dashboard… yet?

So is Browser Only going to happen at Sunset or sooner?

Probably dusk.

Is this where I get to nerd out and post some lyrics from a song in a video game?

The night is long
And the path is dark
Look to the sky
For one day soon
The dawn will come

Classic may be approaching sunset, but the dawn will be there the next day.
