We are trying to clean up our WIP and we have some service jobs on there that I have no idea how to close. Looks like we attempted to use them but quickly went another direction. So how do I close these (very) old jobs?
Thanks in advance!

Service jobs can only be closed when the AR invoice is generated. Create a new group, then from the Action Menu “Get > Field Service Jobs” then the menu, select “Manual Selection”. Select the job. It will generate the invoice. Then post. It will then close the job.
That is my understanding of how service jobs work. Hope that helps.
Also there will be no invoice is there is no costs on the job. But if there is then there will be one.
OK. So that may be the way it’s supposed to work… but it did not work for my situation. The jobs remain opened. The invoices generated were not related to the jobs I have stuck in WIP. Is there something I need to do to make them “ready to invoice”? Sorry I’m a noob. If you have a quick answer, great. If not, I’ll play around with stuff and see if I can figure it out. There’s probably documentation somewhere also I will try to dig up.
I stand corrected. The jobs did close - however they did not drop off of WIP. The parts that are used in those jobs remain in WIP even though the job is closed. I wonder if I can re-open the job and edit the job to remove the parts or something. I’m just not well versed at all with Field Service.
My guess would be that there are no GL Controls behind your service jobs. Check the Product Groups that are used on the jobs.
Don’t you need to Capture in order to relieve WIP?
Good catch! I forgot about that but don’t remember if you have to with Service Jobs.
Is it captured differently than production jobs? We run that process regularly.
EDIT: But did we capture since they created the invoices and closed the jobs? I will check.
I think there’s different captures for Projects (capturing various phases, etc.). But I assumed everything else runs through standard WIP.

I will take a look at the process of closing the jobs by creating an invoice noted in prior posts. Concern would be, are all the costs applied service job prior to closing it.
If this is referring to the PartWip table, I recently had an Epicor ticket open on this as we had 29k wip records and most were closed Service Jobs.
Epicor’s response below:
I did some research and found the following:
WIP will not consume automatically after completing the operation. That logic was removed per an upgraded by our developers. The purpose of this is to be able to modify the WIPs before closing the job.
Closing the Job deletes the WIPs only if the job is “Manufacturing” type. In this case, we are using a “Service” job, so the WIP is not automatically deleted upon closing the job.
Development has enabled in version 2023.1 a toggle checkbox “Consume WIP on Operation Completion” so the WIPs are deleted after completing the service jobs. This toggle is located in Site Configuration > Details > AMM > WIP Settings.
To benefit from this solution, my recommendation is to upgrade the database to at least 2023.1. Meanwhile, there is a datafix that will clear the WIP, using the closed status for filter selection on the program.
