Continuing the discussion from My Latest Rant (and Some Advice) on the Kinetic Configurator:
Got one to add - In the last few weeks I started seeing configurator designer pop in a modal ‘loading’ overlay and freeze. The only normal way out is F5, which is super annoying if you have unsaved work.
Finally spotted the (a?) cause. If you have one control selected with a search value in ‘properties’ when you select a different control, app studio:
- Launches the ‘loading’ overlay
- Drops the properties menu contents
- Filters the properties menu
- Loads the next control’s properties menu
Whoopsie, unhandled race condition. The process will happily wait forever to load properties until it’s done filtering properties.
It turns out that taking matters into your own hands doesn’t seem to do anything terrible. Deleting the http overlay returns control to you. The properties menu is still empty because it retained your search value, and it’s blocked. Switching app studio tabs clears it. Or don’t, it’s your browser, inspect that search textbox to discover that app studio papered over it with another overlay. Pop behind that one, clear your search, the properties menu loads, and you can get on with what you were doing.
Maybe drop cache once you’re settled though. Once things like this start happening, no matter how you respond it will get worse until you do. It’s all fun and gremlins until something crashes and actually deletes what you were doing.
