Consultant Needed - Vantage 6.1 - Crystal 8.5 - Custom Report

This is what the Moderators "think".

I've been watching this thread for a while. It generally pops up from new
users. Mostly its a newbie inocent request and members are quick to
correct. As far as "off topics" go they are fine to discuss within reason.
The moderators have a very loose policy on discussion topics.

Consultants that do make it on to the list KNOW that they better not push
their services on list or they will get stomped on. But they shouldn't be
restricted from participating in general discussion.

EXPERIENCED members (including consultants) should know that the appropriate
response to a less than appropriate NEWBIE question is OFF LIST.

Asking for OFF LIST responses is always appropriate.

Its even appropriate to correct a new member OFF LIST then its done with and
not a public admonishment.

Mostly we try to let the list "Be The List".

After nearly 5 years moderating this list I've never seen such a request
result in a "flood" of consultant misbehavior.

We have a very urgent report that we need done in Crystal,
unfortunately, we do not have anyone on staff that would be able to
tackle it.

I don't know if I'm allowed to ask in this forum if anyone is
interested in doing a custom Crystal Report for us but we're so
desperate I just have to.

If you think you'd be able to help with this Vantage 6.1 and Crystal
8.5 report, please contact our IT Manager, Jeff Kusiciel...847-827-
6680 x225 or jeff.kusiciel@... for detailed information. We
are located in Des Plaines, IL.

Best wishes...and thanks so much. My apologies if it was against the
rules to send a post asking for this kind of assistance.

If the data needs to be an Excel file, why not just create this as a BAQ?

How detailed is the Excel spreadsheet format?

Or is this a spreadsheet supplied by the Vendor which you need to populate with data from Vantage?

Dear Mike...

First, none of us here know what a BAQ is, so that's probably not an
option.

Jeff Kusiciel, our IT guy has the format with what information needs
to be populated into the Vendor Excel file with specific Vantage
information. We had a Crystal report that hasn't been run since
August, 2007 and when we try to run it now, it no longer works. We
had our general consultant here today and he doesn't know Vantage
well enough to help.

It would be great, Mike, since I believe you're in our neighborhood,
if you'd like to at least contact Jeff (jeff.kusiciel@...) to
see if it's a project you want to take on. I know when the original
report was created it didn't take long, but it was done by someone
who knew what they were doing and he's no longer with our company.

The list policies prevent a million consultants fighting, er, advertising
who's better, fishing, etc.

EVERYONE should be able to post to this group to ask for help!!! Just ask that
consultants contact you offlist.

Now that we're up to 8.03.404A, I'll have more time for the EpicWiki and
consultants will be able to post their own competencies there.

I strongly recommend you use 2W Tehnologies for any custom Crystal

Hi Monte et. al.,

The list rules prefer that this kind of information be sent to the requestor
and not to the whole group. If not followed, the list will become a wasteland
of people arguing whose vendor is better. Vendors, who are explicitly not
allowed to advertise, will just ask users to post in their place, etc. Before
you know it, this list will be as useful as the IT Toolbox list because many
people will simply unsubscribe if the advertising noise to useful-knowledge
signal gets too large.

Thanks for your cooperation,

Mark, I know you feel quite strongly about this. But I think as long as it is limited to end users relating their experiences with consultants or contractors, it's useful information for other users. And not unlike other off topic product recommendations that get discussed here (eg: servers, utility software, network gear, etc.)

To me, if Suzy speaks up and says "We hired Joe Smith at ACME consulting for some custom work and he was great", that's useful info for the rest of us.

Now if Joe Smith took that as a cue to post "Thanks for the glowing recommendation, Suzy. BTW anyone else can contact ACME Consulting at......" -- THAT'S COMPLETELY INAPPROPRIATE advertising on the list. Any contractors responding to requests for help should contact the person off list. But users asking peers for recommendations is beneficial.

What's everyone else think?

Wayne,
I have to agree with Mark on this one. The line is to fine, and keeping
track of who works for who and such might ultimately turn into a
nightmare also, not to mention the (recommend me to someone on the list
for a % discount possibilities). I think it would be best to keep post
about recommending consultants off-line. Nothing personal, as I know
several of the consultants on this list personally, but if I were to
recommend one, I would keep it off list.
This is just my opinion, I would be interested in others (especially
some of you long time members).

As a consultant, I don't like the idea of us saying "Hey use me!" or
"You can get this from me." I won't do it. Never have and never will.

I am also in agreement with Wayne in that it is helpful to have users
talks about their experiences with Epicor (good and bad) or any of its
partners, equipment (servers, time clocks, etc) and operating systems,
business processes that work for them and the like.

I don't however like the idea of tearing an organization or person down,
it's not helpful or productive.

Since these comments can go both pro and con for any of us, I would
rather keep the topic off-line. Whether it be good or bad comments.

As part of an organization, I would again want to keep the comments
off-line so as to not detract from the group purpose which is for you to
help each other. I will put my 2 cents in when appropriate but if you
wish to promote (or demote) me or the organization I work with, please
do it through regular email channels and not through the group.

Thanks.

I agree with Mark. ASK the group if needed but request all replies be sent directly to you (off group).
