Vantage 6.1 to 8.03 Upgrade

Here is a department survey that you can send to your departments to
complete. This may help in the discovery of what reports (RB or
otherwise) are key and who they are key to. This may also be helpful in
wish lists, etc.

I've been looking in to this for awhile and have come up with the
following approach(es) I plan to take. Critiques are welcomed.

1. First find out what RB reports are really being run....I suspect less
than 50% of what we have on the menus are used. And less than 25% of the
reports in PRLs are on the menus. Many are one-off reports never to be
run again.

2. Don't convert anything that is likely not being used....at least
until someone asks for it.

3. Determine HOW the ones being used are being used.....as a "look up"
of info or as a printed reference
---we have a lot of RB that people just refer to info in preview mode

4. For the "look up" reports dashboard queries and maybe even using
customized tracker screens may suffice....save some paper

5. For "production" type reports where details and totals for lots of
items are require conversion to Crystal Reports is probably the best
route. My understanding from people who have had to convert many reports
is that the process gets to be fairly quick and they were converting 3-4
per day. Printing the RB specs helps re-create in CR.

6. Another option is to use ODBC and some other report tool such as
Access or even Excel.

7. Hopefully we can someday get CorVu running right and use it for some
reporting tasks

That's the plan anyway.

Hello,
We are going to move from Vantage 6.1 to Vanatge 8.03 and we re-create
reports from RB to Crystal Rep. or some reports create using BAQ. I know
that Epicor can recreate reports.

how/what others who have migrated from 6.1 to 8.0 or 8.03 handled the
report writing task? Has anyone been using outside services to complete
the task?

We would appreciate any feedback as to what worked well and what didn't.
