Create New Top Level Menu Item

Hello,

Using the menu maintenance program in Epicor 10.1.500.11 I am trying to create a separate new top level main menu type of item. When I set the sequence to 0 and leave the parent menu item blank (as i want it to be top most item) I get the following error:
Duplicate Order Sequence for this parent menu ID.

How can I create a top level UD menu item? Can UD menu items not be created at the top most level?

You can’t use the sequence 0 because it is already used… (as the error states) you’ll have to use another sequence number (or re-arrange all your menu sequences if you REALLY want 0)

When I change the sequence number to anything other than zero I get the following error:

Invalid parent ID

I do not want this UD menu item to have a parent as I would like it to be top-level

This works fine,… you need to have MAINMENU as the Parent since there is nothing above it.

Thanks for the advice however,

Having the MAINMENU as the parent makes this item 2nd level. I would like this item to be top level as in the same level as main menu.

How is that second level? I am looking at the menu right now and the Top Level is the “Site” if you have multiple sites and then that’s it…

Are you looking for something above the “Label” Main Menu? cause that’s not a menu Item that’s just the Header for your menu…

Can you show me a screenshot of what you are seeing that makes you think it is the second item?

In the tree the “Main Menu” is sequence 0 (at least on E9) so no is the
answer, but you should be able to have the Parent Menu as the Main Menu and
put a sub menu item above the Sales Mgt menu section.

I would like it to look like this:

where MY NEW MENU does not have a parent. This is to achieve a custom menu layout that will not be modified when epicor updates are released that change the standard menu structure.

Your custom menu’s wouldn’t be changed when you upgrade… only the standard menus… Either way you can’t do that with the current toolset.

But if you create your own Submenu on “Level Two” as you call it, that would be completely custom and wouldn’t get moved with upgrades.
Though frankly the whole endeavor doesn’t make much sense, is there a particular reason you are going through all of this (other than to avoid epicor changing a menu once in awhile) Creating your own custom menu from scratch brings on security implications you need to setup new security groups, and access and everything else.

Hmm. Even if you did, the Mobile, Processes, and Time and Expense menus don’t display in the Client and your custom menu wouldn’t either.

We have a custom menu under Main Menu for our Dashboards, etc. We are also multi-company so it’s nice for each company to have their own custom menu.

It is also mainly to differentiate between 2 companies. Where we can modify 2 separate company specific menu structures each unique in its own way. If there is a better way to accomplish this I’d like to know how.

Having MAINMENU as the parent sounds like the best option as it does have the same effect as i was looking for

In Menu Maintenance, you can have company specific security on any menu object (File > New > New Security) and restrict it to only a company or have it impact all companies. At this time it’s one or all, but, if you have many companies you can always have multiple single company security items on a menu object like a subfolder.
