Customer Supplied Components

Joan,

Here we create a vendor as the customer. Create a customer supplied part
number and issue the customer a P.O. at zero cost.

That way we can track the parts when recieved, send them through inspection
processing, and store them in stock with a lot number.

Works well for us. It really creates a nice snail's trail.

We created a part number in the part master file and called it "Customer
Material" ,description = customer material. When you issue to a job you can
change the discription to what ever you what, wigets, bolts, etc... We issue
customer material at $0.00 cost to the job.

We do a similar sort of thing. We receive the material for the part with an
additional tag of CFM (customer furnished material). Then it gets issued to
the job at zero cost. Once a month we pull receipts onto an invoice to
clear out the receipts and shorten our "Received but not Invoiced" report.
This method uses Vantage to track the incoming material and when it actually
arrives on our doorstep.

We have quite a bit of Customer furnished material that we use and call it out on the bill of material for the work orders... we just create the part number and put a "CF" in front of it and have the $0 value .... we just use quantity adjustments to receive the material but I suppose you could create $0 PO to receive the material as well... just depends on your needs...

We also have lots of Customer supplied material. We treat them just
like any vendor, as QS9000 says you should. We create a zero Value PO,
and treat it just like any other vendor supplied material. I goes
through inspection if needed just like any other material. We also
create a vendor record in the Vendor master, with the same ID in the
Vendor master as in the Customer Master. Easy to link up from Customer
record and Vendor Record. Pulls every together quite nicely.

Also, We use one PO per customer for the entire year. Line Item 1 is a fake
line just to keep the PO open. Other lines are added as needed. At the end
of the year, closed them out and create new PO's as needed the next year.

The use of PO's makes it so you can track pack slip or shipper #'s easily in
the history.

Some of our customers send us work that only takes a few days, and the
configurations are often different each time. For these, we have one
material part number for each customer. The description can be updated as
needed, like Mike already said they do.
