Cycle Count program

Speaking of cycle counts, we recently discovered this and was wondering what everyone else is doing for their count frequencies and costs. I know we all run a separate type of business with unique parts, but does anyone have guidelines for part cost, volume cost and cycle count frequency? And also how many codes do you have setup? 3 (abc)? 5 (abcde)? Etc.

Please let me know.

Thanks.

Tricia,

Did you set your abc codes by Min $, Min unit cost, and what is the
count frequency entered. I am on version 5.0 so I'm not sure how much
this has changed in later versions, but in our version the system
assigned ABC code for a part can be found on the PartPlant table. The
last count date can be found on the PartWhse table. Depending on what
code is assigned to you various Part by Plant and the frequency that you
use for counts and the frequency you have counted parts will determine
what shows in your list of parts to cycle count. Hope that helps.

Hi, all!

Does anyone know of any bugs in the 5.1 version of cycle counts??? I run my
ABC calculation; set up my group; select parts; autoselect; maximum number
(ex. 50). Why does it NEVER give me 50 parts????? I get anywhere from 5 to
maybe 20......

Am I doing something wrong??????????

Thanks in advance for any help!!

Don't know if this got lost in cyberspace - or if no one has any answers.
Never saw it show up in my email, so.....don't know. Figured I'd try again!
;)

TIA!

Tricia:
We are on 6.0 so I don't know if this is the right answer for you, but when we ask for up to a certain # of parts, it gives us that number, however
once you go and start the count, it will drop off any parts that don't have a quantity. So, we might start out at 50 when it selects, but after
starting the count, we might only end up with 43 or some other number.
Don't know if that's what you are seeing or not though!

Thanks, but no....it doesn't give me any items with zero quantity. I'm just
trying to figure out why it would not even give me 50 items (per my example)
to start with! ;( I AM supposed to run the ABC calculation program prior
to generating the count each time, aren't I???

Thanks all!

I remember there was some kooky logic in how the auto-select worked that made it very challenging to use. It's been a while since I've looked at it so don't remember the specifics. Though, I think there is a document somewhere on the support site that discusses it.

I think if you increase the number of parts you select you will eventually hit your 50 mark.

As for running the ABC calculation codes...I wouldn't run them every time you run a cycle count. I would only run them once per quarter (maybe). Depends on your particular inventory management style. Once these codes are "set" they are then used to sort through all the partbin records to determine the parts that are due to be counted.
