Suggest running these on weekend... you can stage them using different dates etc. Right now we only purge the Change Log because we haven't tested the others yet. But the Purge doesn't re-set the "Change Log Entry Present" flag if all Change Log Entries are deleted for a Part. And we have a call on Journal Details not being purged properly, possibly because of various upgrade conversions etc.

We get each department to buy off on when their data is purged.

We're on 9.05.702a x32 SQL 2012 non-unicode.

Has anyone done this?  I know it is difficult to gauge how long it takes, size of db, server speedÂ…

I am doing a test purge on 702AÂ….is it best not to do any transactions, or can I kick this off and have everyone keep on working?  It has been about 12 hours and sysmon states Parttran 1700Â…what does that mean?

We have an 8GB Vantage database that we have NEVER purged (in 8 years)
and is taking up massive resources on our server. How often (if ever)
do others purge out old data from the system? How does this help
performance? What is the size of your database?

Is there anything else you may do on an annual basis to maintain
performance? (ex. database dump and load)

Any feedback is appreciated!

Thanks,

Kelly

Does anyone have any advice or thoughts on using Epicor's built-in Database Purge and Summarize feature?  Does it work?  Anything we should look out for or avoid?  What exactly do you lose regarding traceability and/or history?  Is it deleting PartTran records, JobOpr/JobMtl records, LaborDtls?

Thanks in advance,

Bob Beaghan

I don’t believe it does anything that will affect your Gl or inventory, it just removes the details from the system.

I would suggest you back up and restore to the test or pilot DB, run it and then see how it affects your system to see what is or is not acceptable.

I know more people use it to cleanse change logs more than anything else since those are probably the largest part of many databases.

Does that work in your version?  I have 607A and the purge Records button is always grayed out.  Found this out about 1 yr ago.

You have to untick "Read Only" checkbox for DB Purge and Summarize in Menu Maintenance.
