Database Purge/Summarize

That's what we were thinking here, but I wanted to be sure. Thanks!

Brian
Anyone out there have any experience doing a database purge and summarize?
We did one here and found there is little difference in the size of the
database after it completed.

We are on Vantage 5.1, if that makes any difference.

Brian,
You won't see the size savings until you do a dump and load. The purge will leave blank spaces in the record fields. Vantage will fill in those spaces with future data if the data will fit. So if you don't do a Dump and Load, then the Database shouldn't grow as quickly for a period of time.

Progress won't shrink the physical size of the data file(s) on disk. But
it will reuse the freed space for future data growth; so you may see a
halt in any regular growth for a while. To actually shrink it, I think you
need to do a dump and load.
