Epicor 9 Local Install

I did not catch if you were a progress customer. If you are feel free to contact me. Went through this process about a year ago with Vantage 8.03.40x. As was stated before its extremely helpful if you go through this process yourself instead of having epicor handle it. It will give a greater understanding of what is happening in the background. In addition it will help prepare you better for the major changes that take place. All said and done we have a single company and it took us about 2 months of good solid testing before we were ready to go live. That does not take into account hardware prep, etc, that took place prior to that.

The whole story is that I have not been planning an upgrade. In May we had some major changes at the top and we are changing focus in allot of areas. I have 5 companies and 2 are live. There is a new push for the remaining 3 along with wanting to add some new modules and reevaluate our financials. This new team really wants to get a look at E9 so we can discuss the new vision going forward. We want to review/discuss well before the end of the year so we can discuss budgets and all of the good stuff.

The quick fix is to get this installed so my new team can take a good hard look at the changes. I am fast tracking right now. Once I get more information that may change.

Additionally, I am looking at major Server hardware changes across the board very soon. Just allot of unknowns.

Thanks.

I want to install Epicor 9 on a desktop for purposes of research. I will probably setup RDP because there will be a couple of us taking a look at it as we plan our moves going forward. I just don't have a Server available.

This is not going to be in any form of a production environment and I am not even moving my database at this time. Simply for my project team to evaluate.

Anything special I should consider for desktop in this environment.

Jeff
Load it as your normally would and you should be all set.

Also, are you guys using virtualization yet? If not, you may want to look
into creating a VM for testing instead of a dedicated machine. Easier to
dupe / move / rollback / etc. You can snapshop the VM at a set point in
time and then roll back after each test so you know you're always working
from the same starting point.

Hi Jeff,

Just wondering what version you are running?

>not even moving my database at this time
If it is 8.03.409C may be worht considering.
If you are lucky it can take just a few extra hours to upgrade a database.
I liked getting a preview of the upgrade process.
It made me more aware of some of the changes in E9, especially UOM.

Jeff,

From experience, you might consider running an isolated VMware environment for you testing server. I mention that as we inherently install items on workstations that could possibly "bend" your environment in a way that would be problematic for a true testing.

VMware server 2.0 is a free download.Â
