we have customers that want orders earlier than our lead time but we acknowledge at our 6-8 weeks lead time so it doesn’t hurt our on time delivery. Is there any way we can put the earlier date on the order so our shipping person knows she can ship earlier?

there is a field in the sales order (I believe at the Order Detail level) that specifies an “or sooner” option… this is typically used by EDI, and is also visible in the order fulfillment workbench, and can be used to filter out orders.
You can expose that field to your UI with a customization to make it show. It also already shows in the LIST view of the order details I believe (unless someone hid it).
