Duh!! Even though there were other transactions, in the transaction
history report, I never thought that a simple Quantity Adjustment of +17
would fix it, but it did!! Since this part, for some unknown reason,
carries an average cost of $0.00, there is no financial impact to this
adjustment. Now, when I look at the Transaction History, the past
"Running Totals" are still "?", but the current total is now displayed
as "17". I'm still curious WHY this happened - other parts we have
periodically go negative (i.e. ship from stock before stock is received
to FG) -- it must have to do with the fact that the first transaction
that affected the "Running Total" was negative.

Try running the Database Conversion #6430. it is located in system
management, Utilities.

This will recalculate the on hand quantities for parts.

Earlier this year, we set up another company within our database. They
have a part that has a problem with it's quantity on hand, which screws
up the Stock Status report totals.

The first transaction for this part was a shipment from a job (MFG-CUS)
of 20 pieces (no problems).
The second transacation was a shipment from stock (STK-CUS) of 17
pieces. The resulting "Running Total" was "?" instead of "-17". Even
since this tranaction, the "Running Total" has been "?". When running a
stock status report, the quantity is "?" and thus, "?" times a unit
price results in an extended value of "?", and so on.

This problem has been on-going since May. Tech support has had a copy
of our database for over a week, but we have not heard anything yet. We
are on 6.1.514. Has anyone else ever experienced this problem?

I can't really provide any insight, but I have a thought.

First where did the 17 units come from? Did they come from a job and
should have been shipped from that job? If so, do a manufacturing
receipt from that job for the 17 items and replenish the -17 units in stock.

Any screen or report written in Progress will do that if it is unable to
display a value with the format code the programmer specified. Apparently
the format they used didn't have any provision for a negative
value. There's nothing wrong with the data; the screen is just unable to
display it.

If / when you do a transaction to put the 17 in stock, it should resolve
itself. You might want to back-date it, so the history looks more logical.
