Ground control

The F2 should work OK with syntax SENDKEYS("{F2}") but I can't get the ALT
key to work either. I'm having to use Mouse commands. As I use GC on only
one PC, the screen locations remain constant but I'd feel happier/more
secure using ALT. Acrasoft support haven't been a whole heap of help either.
I think it might be a difference between US and UK keyboards.
Mark Twain is probably right again!
Feel free to contact me direct if you want.

Richard

To all,
Has anyone been able to send keyboard combinations using ground
control?

I am trying to automate the navigation of the screens from the part
master for a given record to the warehouses screen. I would like to
send ALT+I then ALT+W then ALT+A.

I tried doing this with the mousemoveto and mouseleft functions, but
this requires that the screens pop up in the exact same locations
each time.

And what about the F2 key? This would be a good way to have the macro
save the changes and "back out" to the part master screen.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Andrew

Hello!

I'm interested in using Ground Control (use macro's in Vantage), but I need to know:

Can I use it in a network, running CITRIX Metaframe?
Or is it necessary to install it on clients (I use thin clients, that don't have a seperate HD, win-install, etc.)

Does anyone have any experience with this?

Len,
Ground Control works very simply... It imitates keystrokes/mouse-clicks on a PC. Whatever that PC can do, if it can be translated to mouse clicks and keyboard strokes, then it can do it (plus a few more things).

Thanks Troy,

I understand that's what it does, but I'm wondering how this will work in my situation (the thin clients). These are basically just NIC's with a monitor attached to them. How will Ground Control know where the command came from, or where to send the action to? Will it work at all?

Thanks,
Len

Len,
I see your point. If a number of NIC's are attached to the same machine, I'm not sure how Ground Control would see that. I guess you could try and see. There are some sample macro's that come with the GC program which you could try.

I was curious to know how people are using ground control, to update
fields in vantage and if they would be willing to share macros with me?

Frank,
Ground Control is a wonderful tool.

We use Ground Control daily and also occasionally. Each night after the
evening Vantage backup runs, I have some batch files that restore the
Vantage backup to the TRAINING database. After that is done, the Task
Scheduler runs a Ground Control macro which renames the TRAINING database to
show the date and time that it was backed up. This allows users to know
when the database was last refreshed and that it is the TRAINING and not the
LIVE. So, our TRAINING database is always within 8 hrs old of the LIVE
database. (We also have a TEST database that we use for special testing and
projects that may need to remain untouched for longer periods of time. We
refresh the TEST database only as needed.)

We have also used Ground Control on various occasions for data entry
projects. For instance, one time we realized that we were not "unapproving"
BOM's after creating a new Revision of a BOM, and thus there was the
potential for someone to create a job for an older version of a BOM. We
used Ground Control to "unapprove" all the older versions of the BOM for
each part where there was more than one approved. I used a Crystal report
to generate the list of parts with double-approved revs, then exported the
part list to a text file. Ground Control read each part from the text file
and accomplished the necessary keystrokes to unapprove the older BOM for
that part. Saved us hours of time.

Another instance was when we had to close a warehouse and move all the
parts into the main warehouse. This time we used Excel to generate the TO
and FROM lists of warehouse, bin, and partnumber. These were then pasted
into a text file. Ground Control read the part from the text file,
transferred the part from the appropriate bin into the new bin and completed
the transaction. Again, it saved someone hours of time. We've done this
process several times. We even were able to use multiple computers with
Ground Control to move more parts at the same time (but kept the operator,
me, quite busy watching it all.)

The most recent application for Ground Control was when we updated the
Standard Cost on a couple thousand parts at Year End. Again, Excel was the
template for the new cost for each part. The list of PartNum and Cost were
exported to a text file, which Ground Control read from to make the Cost
Adjustment. I used three computers for that process and it took about two
hours. Manually it would have taken a few days. Audits on the parts showed
that the costs were all entered perfectly accurate (no typos). The only
glitch in this process was when two computers tried transferring a part at
exactly the same time and Vantage would try to issue the same RecID number
for the transaction to both computers. One of them would get an error. This
would mean stopping the macro on that computer, locating which part was last
completed, and starting the macro again from that part.

I used to use Ground Control to run exports from Vantage using Vantage's
export utility, but I eventually found out how to use progress routines to
do this more powerfully and quicker (and more reliably).

I've heard of others using Ground Control to run MRP on a regular basis, but
have never tried that one actually myself.

To all,
Has anyone been able to send keyboard combinations using ground
control?

I am trying to automate the navigation of the screens from the part

send ALT+I then ALT+W then ALT+A.

I tried doing this with the mousemoveto and mouseleft functions, but
this requires that the screens pop up in the exact same locations

And what about the F2 key? This would be a good way to have the macro
save the changes and "back out" to the part master screen.

Thanks in advance for your help!
