Ground control Macro Program

Shirley,

I'll stick it on the eGroups files.if that's OK with everyone. I found it on www.winfiles.com originally under the Win85/98 Automated Utilities section.

I would like to get the link for the program called "GROUND CONTROL". I
would like to see what it does and possibly automate some processes.

We no longer allow attachments to files. To access/share Report Files, please go to the following link: http://www.egroups.com/files/vantage/
(Note: If this link does not work for you the first time you try it, go to www.egroups.com, login and be sure to save your password, choose My Groups, choose Vantage, then choose Files. If you save the password, the link above will work the next time you try it.)

. I learned today that we have a lot of BOM's in Vantage that have multiple revisions with the 'Approved' flag set. This is causing problems as it allows Manufacturing to release jobs with the wrong BOM rev. This then directs Purchasing to order incorrect parts and or quantities. We have realized the need now to unset this 'Approved' flag on the old rev whenever they get an E.O which changes the BOM to a new rev. They will continue to make the new rev 'Approved". We will revise our 'BOM Changes' procedure accordingly.

Question: Could anyone write a program to unset the 'Approved' flag on all old revisions of BOM's which have multiple 'Approved' BOM's? This would save a lot of manual effort. The alternative is to get a temporary in to slog through it. Let me know what you think. Thanks.

Troy:

A) You can set security to allow only certain individuals to set
APPROVED to control your world.

B) Epicor frowns on routines that short-cut the actual process; It may
also be difficult to write a routine to UN-APPROVE the correct levels
(one is A, one is B, one is M, etc.)

C) Perhaps have a person to a chunk each day to minimize the drudgery.

That's my 2 cents...

Good Luck

Hi All,
I took a suggestion from someone in an earlier email about changing from Avg to Standard Costing. There is a shareware program called Ground Control which has a macro language in it. With it you can write a program to imitate keystrokes, open and close windows, cut & paste, do mouse clicks, etc. I did a crystal report to get me all the BOM's with multiple "Approved" boxes checked, and exported those part numbers to a text file. The Ground Control macro took each part, pasted it into the "Part File Maintenance", and did the necessary keystrokes to switch from "Approved" to unapproved. With 600 boxes to un-check, it did save some time. I still had to do some by hand, but even with learning the macro language it took me about 6 hours (2 of them actually running the macro and hand changing the last remaining BOM's). Just thought I'd let you know in case someone had a similar need. I will probably use this routine again if we do indeed switch all our parts from Avg. to Std.

"..And that's ... the rest of the story."

Keep in mind that there are other macro managers out there. I currently
use Macro Express 2000 from Insight: http://www.macros.com/order.htm The
process writers make extensive use of it for the "canned" processes. I
personally use it for mass updates to part last cost.

Just another fish in the sea.
