How do I create a test DB in 4.0?

I found these on the Epicor website under 'Tech News Page', 'Adding a third
database for test or training in 4.0'.

------------------------------------------------

Vantage Technical Paper: Adding a third database
Adding a third database for training or testing in Vantage 4.00.
PROBLEM RESOLUTION: Follow the steps below for using the Progress PROCOPY
utility to copy an existing database to a new folder, and adding an
additional database to the 9.0B ProControl.

Copying The Database:
At the NT Server console

1) Go to the Server and shut down the database you plan to copy. Go to
ProControl 9.0B icon and double
click. Click on [DETAILS]. Note there are probably two databases, both with
green checks. Click
on the database you wish to make a copy of and then click on [STOP]. A red X
will appear when the
database has stopped.

2) Using the WindowNT explorer, create a new folder to house the copy
of the database.
Example: C:\EPICOR\TEST\DB

3) Open a MSDOS Command prompt. [START] "³ PROGRAM FILES "³ MSDOS
Prompt.

4) At the DOS Prompt, enter the command: SET DLC=C:\EPICOR\PROGRESS

5) Again at the DOS Prompt, enter the command:
PATH=C:\EPICOR\PROGRESS;%PATH%

6) Change the DOS prompt to C:\EPICOR\PROGRESS\BIN>

7) From this DOS prompt the following command will copy the main
Vantage DB to the Test\DB folder.

Enter the command: procopy c:\epicor\vantage\db\vantage
c:\epicor\test\db\vantage

8) Upon pressing in step 7, you should see the following activity.
When the MSDOS prompt returns, proceed with ¡§Adding a Database to
ProControl¡¨.

Adding a Database to Procontrol
1. Edit the Services file.

a. Go to the server and open C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC\SERVICES
file with the NOTEPAD application.

b. Add another entry to the bottom of the file titled ¡§test¡¨. This
can be added directly below the current Vantage and vntgtrain entries. Add
it in small letters: (i.e. test 2920/tcp). NOTE: If this is the last entry
in the SERVICES file, there must be a hard return after this entry. Use the
space bar to enter the spaces between Test and 2920/tcp. The number of
spaces does not matter, but you must use the spacebar, not the tab function.
Using the tab key will result in the PC or Server not recognizing the entry.

2. Go back into ProControl 9.0B, select the database you wish to copy,
and click the [Copy] button. This will create a new entry in the ProControl
¡§Database¡¨ screen.

3. Select the General tab for the newly created database entry, and
change the following three parameters in the new database information:
Identifier: enter the new name of the test directory, 'Test'
Working Directory: c:\epicor\test\db
Startup Parameters: change this to reflect the new entry in the Services
file of 'test'. (i.e -S test -N TCP).

4. Make a copy of your C:\Epicor\Vantage\Vantage.vtg. Rename it to
something like Test.vtg.

5. Edit this new Test.vtg file to reflect the new database and service
we want to attach to. Below is a new .VTG file with the changes. All other
parameters are still being pulled from the main Vantage directory.

[Vantage Startup]
Executable=V:\progress\bin\prowin32.exe
Database= V:\test\db\dcdv7
IniFile=V:\vantage\vantage.ini
ParameterFile=V:\vantage\db\Vantage.pf
ConnectOptions=-N TCP -H mntech -S test
TempDirectory=C:\vntgwork
StartupProcedure=mainmenu.w
OtherParameters=-rand 2 -q -basekey ini

(Where V: is your mapped drive.)

6. On the workstation where you plan to run this database, open the
C:\WINDOWS\SERVICES file for Windows95/98 or the
C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC\SERVICES file on an NT Workstation with the
NOTEPAD application.
Add the same entry to this file that was used at the server: (i.e. test
2920/tcp). NOTE: If this is the last entry in the SERVICES file, there must
be a hard return after this entry. Use the space bar to enter the spaces
between Test and 2920/tcp. The number of spaces does not matter, but you
must use the spacebar, not the tab function. Using the tab key will result
in the PC or Server not recognizing the entry.

7. Create an icon for the new database:

a. Right mouse click the normal Vantage icon and select 'Create
Shortcut.' This will create a copy of the icon on your desktop or within
your Vantage group, depending where you are currently located.

b. Rename the new icon.

c. Right mouse click the new icon and select 'Properties.'

d. Change the Target line to reflect the new .vtg file. (TARGET:
V:\Vantage\test.vtg)

8. Go back in to ProControl and start the databases.

Didn't it install with the standard training database? Do you have live data that can be copied over?

I want to set up a training/test database in 4.0. I've searched
ERAnet for training and test databases to no avail. Does anyone have
instructions for this?
