How do you use BarTender?

I was never succesfull passing parameters to Epicor's crystal runtime.
We have created reports using Visual Studio and CR Runtime that we can pass parameters to though, but this is time consuming. I would be interested in a code sample as this can help in some other projects I have. It would be greatly appreciated.

It seems to me that if during the Sales Cycle, if a customer utters the word 'barcode' or 'labels' then BarTender is added to your Order Form.
Personally, I have not found any value in using BarTender instead of Crystal for barcoding or labels. I've used Crystal for all our labels and barcoding and it seems to work find. In addition, within Epicor auto printing labels can be setup. At the last place I worked with Epicor we setup a few labels with BarTender and ended up reverting back to Crystal. For those that are using crystal how are you getting it to print? With the bartender setup I click the button I have added and that is the end of it, no other screens to interact with.

If you have more screens you have to deal with like on a standard report I can quickly see how bartender is worth it.

When I set it up it always seems like overkill.
I'd be curious to know where it might be necessary too.

I do know some people that already had Bartender before they installed Vantage/E9.

It’s very limited, IMO, too. The *only* value I see is that it’s able to print many other barcode formats than CR can handle. Code39.... Yeah, Crystal. Code128 can also be done in CR but not without a plug-in. I agree, Bartender is a waste of money. Hard to justify any ROI.

Seriously, I have yet to see a valid argument as to why not to use bartender. We successfully use it and it has been a huge time saver not having to click through multiple screens to print via crystal.

If someone can provide an example of the process you use to print via crystal I believe it would be beneficial to all in coming to their own conclusions. Im all for saving money, but if the process to print via crystal is going to add to the amount of time it takes an end user to complete a process then it quickly loses its value.

We use bartender for all our receipt, shop floor(serial/lot) itendification & any additional shipping labels in 8.03.

Using customization and bartender commander we print record specific
labels driven from events without any user intervention. They just do there daily job and a label pops out when they need it. I can also have customer specific designs shoot out during the pack process again without anybody knowing or doing anythign different. It has it's place and uses. I was not sucessfull doing any of these things with just using crystal.

Our company makes medical devices and the label requirements are pretty extensive; some tricky parsing of the part number, some special barcode formats, etc.. The built-in bar code fonts, its flexibility to position elements, etc. make it a better choice for us for really complex labels.

So for RM labels and other internal labels, we use Crystal. But for FG labels, we use BarTender because we have found it easier to construct and maintain these labels.

In addition, within Epicor auto printing labels can be setup. At the last place I worked with Epicor we setup a few labels with BarTender and ended up reverting back to Crystal. So here's my quesiton. Is anyone using Bartender in a way that Crystal cannot support? We are about to cancel our maintenance, and I'd like to be enlightened on any genious use of this very expensive 3rd party software.

I can also have customer specific designs shoot out during the pack process again without anybody knowing or doing anythign different. It has it's place and uses. I was not sucessfull doing any of these things with just using crystal.

I suppose our classic example is in the shipping process where each and every customer wants their packing slips and shipping tags to look a bit different. The shipping clerks simply pick and pack, clicking the shipped check box nets them all the documents of the appropriate type and format for that customer.
