How to access current company name from vantage for reporting

In reply to my own question, YES it works, I've wanted to be able to do
this for a long time. Now to see the performance on some very complex
reports.

Todd,
Looking at this linkage, could this also be used to print
the user name of the person printing the report?

There is a way to get the current company of the logged in user in
Report Builder and I suspect the same could be used for Crystal with
ODBC.

The tables and links are:
Table Links
_MyConnection Link to Connect table using PID field
Connect Link to UserFile using _Connect-Name to
DCDUserID
UserFile Link to desired master data table for report
using CurComp to Company field

This string of links becomes the top of your set of tables and causes
only data for the user's current Vantage company to be selected. I
think this same thing might work for Crystal if run from within Vantage.
I'm not experienced enough with Crystal & ODBC to know how well it would
know the current user's Progress PID. But this might be an avenue to
check out. You might also be able to skip the _My-Conneciton and
Connect tables and do something within crystal to associate a windows
login name to the name in the UserFile table.

Dear All,

Our client wants to create some reports other than vantage standard
reports.

So, we create those reports by using crystal report designer.

However, we encounter a technical problem. That is how to get current
company name in vantage, and let the report know for which company it
should
retrieved data since vantage support multi companies.

We find that we can type and run a commond in command window of
vantage to
get the current company such as: msgbox {_COMPANYNAME}. However, it is
not
possible to ask our end user to type VBasic command in command window.

Are there any better ways to solve the problem?

I may be missing something but couldn't you just add a parameter field to
the report requesting which Company, translate that to the Company ID and
then print the matching information?

Yup, that's why I first messed around with it - looking for user's name. Then I found I could avoid making users change company in filter or writing company specific versions.

Only trouble is retrofitting it to existing reports because _MyConneciton has to be master table and changing master table is really tedious. Better to have a stub report with this setup and write all reports needing name starting with it and then "save as..." a new name.
