Another option; in the old days it was called a banner page, today many of
the printer drivers have a SEPARATOR PAGE option build into the print driver
some where. It was designed for your issue.

from within Report Builder?

I've been asked to create a few reports where the data is automatically
filtered for the user rather than listing everything or prompting the user
to enter their username in a report filter.

The only way I can imagine is calling the report from a Progress
procedure running from the Vantage menu. The shared variable DCD-
userID could be passed to the report as a parameter, and displayed on
the report. Not the easiest, but an option.

I found that the _MyConnection table has the ProcessID of the current user
and that linking it to the _Connect table gets the name (must use alias name
w/o _ character). But darned if I can figure out how to fake a link to
these on reports and I don't know how to have a stand alone table (outside
the regular record complex). If this is possible there might be a way to
have the user's name on a RB report.

Another trick I use is to get the user's WinNT username, look up their data
in Vantage (EmpBasic) then pass the UserID to the report as a parameter.

Good news: This works outside of Vantage.

Bad news: All reports must be started from a progress program.

In my case, I have a generic report program that is called by a batch file,
one batch file for each report. The batch file uses environment variables to
pass report & library data to the progress routine which handles opening the
report.

It also passes the NT & Vantage userid info, which can be accessed using the
RUNTIME-PARAMETER function, and then added to the reports.
