HOWTO: Restore Client folder and ZIP file after upgrading to 9.0

It's coming from the zip file so that's not the solution for me.

However, your idea of a corrupt executable is correct, so thanks for the suggestion ! (I couldn't see the wood for the trees).

I took the zip file off of a virtual server I have setup for additional testing and used the exe in there and it worked a treat :)

Thanks.

The devs in California updated the Service Pack documentation today, but
not everyone with support in Minnesota is aware of this, so here it is.
Makes me wish they had a changelog for the documentation. :)
If you're suddenly missing EXEs in your Client folder on the server
after updating to 9.05.605, you'll need to do the following (taken from
the 9.05.605 Progress Service Pack Install Guide, Revision June 08, 2011
10:38pm, pp 18-19):
4.6 Restore Client Zip Installer (Windows 2008 R2)
If you are prompted with a message similar to the following: "The item
'Mfgsys.exe' that this shortcut refers tohas been changed or moved ...
Do you want to delete this shortcut?" then you must use these steps to
restorethe Client Zip Installer file from a backup copy.

1. When prompted with the message to delete the shortcut, select the
No button.
2. Go to the folder where you have a backup copy of the Client Zip
Installer executable file (clientzipinstaller.zip). For example, go to
\backup \clientzipinstaller905\clientzipinstaller.zip.
3. Unzip the clientzipinstaller.zip file. The ClientZipInstaller.exe
file is extracted.
4. From a command prompt, run the ClientZipInstaller.exe file. For
example, use the following command, and replace c:\epicor\epicor905 with
the appropriate drive path of the local installation.
ClientZipInstaller.exe"/z:C:\Epicor\Epicor905\releaseclient.zip""/d:C:\E\
picor\Epicor905\client\config\default.mfgsys""/t:C:\Epicor\Epicor905\cli\
ent\config\test.mfgsys""/r:C:\Epicor\Epicor905\client\config\train.mfgsy\
s""/p:C:\Epicor\Epicor905\client\config\pilot.mfgsys" /u
Note: There are no spaces inside the "" but there is a space between
each set of "".

I've got a support call open with Epicor on this but in the mean time I thought I'd ask about this in here.

Step 4.6 in the SP guide just will not work for me at all. I'm aware of the space etc but each and every time the clientzipinstaller.exe app crashes (Epicor Client Zip Installer has stopped working).

This is on a server running Windows Server 2008 R2 x64.

Thanks.

Perhaps that .exe is corrupt? In my 'clientzipinstaller' folder I have a ClientZipInstaller.zip that has the .exe in it. Can you extract that and try it again?

I believe that step 4 just repackages the .zip file with your custom config files, and there's nothing stopping you from just copying files over manually.

But I'd be interested to hear what support has to say on the matter.
