Can anyone explain the difference between the “IC Trader” check box on the “Detail” page and “Inter-Company” check box on “Billing” page of the Customer application? I think the “IC Trader” check box has something to do with setting up the customer in a multi-company environment, but can’t confirm this. Also, if that is true, in what practical scenario would you set “IC Trader” to true and leave “Inter-company” as false? We’re doing some slight changes to our posting rules regarding revenue and COS for intercompany transactions.
There is a Classic version Multi-Company Education Course Document which has not yet been translated into Kinetic that explains this.
Basically, the “IC Trader” checkbox is what enables the intercompany PO/SO functionality, while the “Inter-Company” checkbox is more related to how the billing flow works. You can probably have one without the other, but I’ve never seen it done that way,
Would there be a use case where you would want to to mark a customer as an “IC Trader” but not “Inter-Company”? I could see a use case where you would want to mark a customer as “Inter-Company” and not “IC Trader” (e.g. you want the intercompany posting rules to take effect but a sister company is using different software). But for the reverse, when would you want a customer record et up that way? If you wanted the ICPOs/ICSOs but didn’t want the intercompany posting rules to take effect?
That type of scenario would be something you’d need to test for your unique environment. I’ve never done that, but I don’t think the logic would allow that. From how I’ve used it in the past, you have to be InterCompany before you can be and IC Trader… the IC Tracer functionality builds on what the InterCompany setting provides.
But that’s just looking at how I’ve done it before… you should try it out and see if it works for you.
Inter-Company flag on Customer is only driving the Sales context / account
Inactive > Sales is coming from Part (Part>Product Group>GL Control Code>Sales context)
Active > Sales is coming from Customer (Customer>AR Account GL Control Code>Sales context)
If your company doesn’t have a proper IC Segment (where to store IC code) but still requires to have a proper / distinct Sales account when invoicing IC company > you would Activate this flag. Since this is tied to Customer, you are going to loose info about ‘what’ you are selling (Prod Group / LOB). To restore info about Product > Lookup tables and/or modification of posting rules may be required.
